Please join us this Tuesday, July 8th for our regular monthly meeting at the Harbor View Health Center, 178 Ogden Ave (corner of Franklin), 1st Floor Cafeteria at 7:30PM. Representatives of the JC Police Department and Resident Response Center will be present. Our guest this month is dining expert Kern Weissman (who just happens to be RNA's president). Kern will discuss the best options in local dining. There  are some new options in town so be sure to come hear about them and share your own experiences and recommendations as well.   We will have some free food samples from a couple Heights eateries as well.

Live at the Lumberyard Going Strong

Have you been to the Heights' most unique live music venue? Hundreds of area residents have come out for the first two concerts of the season and enjoyed fabulous music with amazing acoustics and video projections to boot.  All where? In the lumberyard at local business Palisade Lumber. Over 150 music lovers came out for the June 27th show and got to enjoy three bands (for free!): Dogfood, the Zydeco Revelators and GMJ Groove with DJ Senor Lunkhead spinning between sets.  An added bonus? Dark Side of the Moo served up exotic burgers and sausages and donated a portion of their earnings to support the Lumberyard events - thank you Tyrone!)

We still have three Live At The Lumberyard events coming up on July 18th, Aug 15th, and Sept 5th. The next show on July 18th (rain date July 19th) features CKAY, America's Sweetheart and Plastiq Passion.

7PM: CKAY: CKAY is an independent artist in NYC.  A three-time winner of "Showtime at the Apollo," CKAY combines powerful vocals, quirky lyrics, and unique Pop melodies to produce an entertaining, emotionally-moving new sound.  A product of the 90's, this high-energy, eclectic singer/songwriter has teamed up with percussionist and back up singer, The Professor.

8PM: America's Sweetheart: America's Sweetheart is your girl-rock summer fun band. Anastasia, Val & Joe; Bass, Guitar & Drums bring shoop shoops and sha la las to your block party, your beach party and the party in your mind. Come sing and shake with America's Sweetheart.

9PM: Plastiq Passion: Take everything you think you know about girl bands and throw it out the window because Plastiq Passion rocks out like no other. Their
energetic and passionate live show continues to create quite a buzz
amongst concert goers in New York City as well as nation-wide, ever
since their 2008 cross-country tour. Check out their newest album,
Every Which Way.Collectively they have a goal to play every single rock venue in
America (and also the world) including, but not limited to, your
basement. So keep a look out for these four hardcore momma-jamma's and
don't mess with them, because they have a black-belt in bar stools.

Live at the Lumberyard is made possible in part by funds from the New Jersey Council on the Arts/Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts, administered by the Hudson County Office of Cultural & Heritage Affairs, Thomas. A. Degise, County Executive and the Board of Chosen Freeholders.

Ogden's End Community Garden Takes Shape

The new Ogden's End Community garden is really taking off thanks to strong leadership by Kevin Condrack, Nick Buffum and the new volunteer coordinator Zak Cohen.  The garden was also bolstered by a successful fundraiser that raised about $900 in crucial funding.  The upcoming volunteer days are Wed July 9th at 6:00pm AND Sat July 12th at 11:00am.  The garden also needs volunteers to help water on  July 10th (Thurs).  If you are looking for a way to get involved in a green space project and make an immediate difference, here is your chance. Also, please continue to save up those empty wine bottles.  Email ogdensendgarden@gmail.com to volunteer, sign up to do plantings (there are no private plots at this garden) or just learn more.

Movie Night Returns on August 1st

Movie Night In Riverview Park returns on Friday August 1st.  RNA will be screening The Princess Bride, a classic that the young, old and everyone in between can enjoy.  The movie will be shown at about 8:00pm (sundown) in Riverview Park.  As always, the movie is free and complimentary popcorn will be served.  Bring a blanket or lawn chair.  Mark your calendars.

New lighting is being installed on Palisade Ave based on the lighting survey that was promoted by RNA members to eliminate dark stretches along Palisade Ave.  We'll get an ETA on the project at the meeting.

Twelve of the twenty-nine buildings on the City's Abandoned Building List have been targeted for legal action by the city to acquire and sell these properties, this includes 671 Palisade which has generated complaints by neighbors for years.   We will continue to work with HCE and the Jersey City Public Officer to get additional problematic vacant buildings designated as Abandoned Buildings.  We will have additional details at the meeting.

We have received proposed plans for a refurbish and expansion project at 377 Ogden that were submitted in an application to the Jersey City Planning Board.  We will bring copies of these plans for your review and we also have a contact for questions related to the project.

The water source at Riverview Park is now working again. Thanks to Streets and Buildings director John McGrath, MUA and United Water for getting the line restored and the water flowing again so we can water the new perennial garden (thanks to the RCG for letting us borrow their rain barrel and water supply while we were getting our water access restored).

The Mayors Stop The Drop anti-litter campaign officially started on Sunday 7/6. We will try to identify when the students will be hitting the Heights and what the locations will be.
