Our next meeting is Tuesday, February 10th at 7:30PM at the HarborView Health Center, 178 Ogden Ave (at Franklin) in the first floor dining room.  Our guests this month will be the architect and owner of a proposed 4-lot development project for 500 Palisade Avenue. We will also be reviewing RNA's plans for the year and would like membership feedback. If you are interested in volunteering in 2015, this is the meeting to attend.  All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Development Proposed for 500 Palisade Ave (@ Bowers)

With the economy picking up and our neighborhood improving, development proposals are coming fast and furious.  At this month's membership meeting, our guests will be the owner and architect of a 4-lot development for 500 Palisade Avenue that includes aspects that affect historic Holland Street (adjacent to Riverview-Fisk Park). The proposal for the structure requires several variances including height, density, parking and change of use. This project is tentatively scheduled to go before the zoning board in March but the owner is coming to RNA first for input from the community. This is not a legal public hearing so anyone wishing to speak for or against this project will also need to attend the public hearing in March.

Meet the 2015 RNA Board

Annual elections for the RNA Board of Directors were held at the January meeting. Congratulations to the 2015 board!

  • Vice President: Nicholas Buffum

New Fence for Ogden's End Community Garden

We would like to thank the city for installing a metal fence that will help protect Ogden's End Community Garden and keep cars from parking there.   Even with the fence, come spring, the garden will still be open to all and no membership is required.  If you want to get involved with the garden, send an email to

Spoken Word Series Kicks Off in the Heights

Local Heights resident James Ruggia, the Riverview Neighborhood Association, and 942 Summit (Bloomsbury Sq, Do You Tea?, WHOS Gluten Free Bakery) are very excited to bring free spoken word events to the Heights. The Series will be held on Tuesday evenings February 17th, March 3rd and March 24th from 6:30--8:30PM and will feature guest poets as well as include an open mic portion each night where all poets and readers, amateur or otherwise, are welcome to contribute to the evening. We thank 942 Summit for opening its door to this RNA-sponsored series and look forward to community participation and support.  Featured poets will include: Danny Shot, Joel Lewis, Mauro Altamura & Teresa Carson, more TBA.

Save the Date - JC Fridays March 6th

RNA will again be participating in JC Fridays, a citywide celebration of the arts, by providing partial sponsorship of the March 6th JC Fridays concert at The Statuary (53 Congress Street) as part of their continuing JC Fridays concert series. The doors will open at 7PM and feature two sets by Bombay Rickey (7:30 & 9PM) and visual art by Leandro Comrie. According to the Facebook invitation: "BOMBAY RICKEY might be the soundtrack to a Bollywood noir film from the 1960s, or perhaps to a spaghetti western that never existed. Bombay Rickey counts Ennio Morricone and Yma Sumac as influences. Exotic dance rhythms, coloratura soprano, surf guitar." Need we say more? Additional details will follow as the date gets closer.

100 Steps Update

Although the council passed the ordinance to name the steps after Bill Gauhan over the objections of RNA due to the fact that there was no community input, we were able to get several of the council people to support naming the new gazebo after Maria Tuzzo once it's constructed, in addition, they agreed to modify the street naming ordinance to also include public spaces to force a more open and fair renaming process in the future.
