Greetings!

In lieu of our monthly meeting, Riverview Neighborhood Association's (RNA's) annual holiday party will be held this Tuesday, December 8th at the Harborview Health Center, 178 Ogden Avenue (at Franklin St) at 7:30PM.  Bring a friend and join your neighbors to enjoy some Holiday Cheer.   This event is free (donations welcome) and caterered by local eatery Patsey's.  Bring a dessert to share if you can. With the exception of opening up nominations for the 2016 RNA Board of Directors, no business will transpire - just a time to celebrate with your community.
DOT ALERT: PALISADE AVE BRIDGE (RT-139) CLOSING FOR 4-5 MONTHS

FULL CLOSURE OF THE PALISADE AVENUE BRIDGE INTERSECTION IS ANTICIPATED ON OR ABOUT THURSDAY, DECEMBER 10, 2015.  The Palisade Avenue Bridge over the Route 139 lower roadway is planned for a full reconstruction.  Click here for the detour map.  --Several community groups have requested that this work be delayed until Oakland Ave is opened back up but the NJDOT has not yet agreed to heed that request.

Please contact the Community Outreach Team with any questions relative to the Route 139 (a.k.a. Pulaski Contract No. 2) project at PC2@mbi-gs.com.

Don't Miss the Event of the Season - RNA's Annual Holiday Party!

Join us in a long time tradition. A holiday party that is free to attend and free of RNA business (with one exception).  Come one, come all - catered by Patsey's on a first come, first served basis so don't dally.

Get to know those new to the neighborhood and those who have spent their entire lives here. Don't miss out.

An Italian dinner will be served. Bring a dessert to share if you can.

As is tradition, this event is free to attend; donations are always welcome.

See you all Tuesday, December 8th at 7:30PM at the Harborview Health Center, 178 Ogden Ave (corner of Franklin).

A Chance To Get off the sidelines - Board Nominations are Now Open

Whether you are impressed with the neighborhood or feel it needs improvement or both, now is the time to lend your talents and run for a position on Riverview Neighborhood Association's Board of Directors.  RNA is one of the oldest, continually active neighborhood associations in Jersey City and is at the forefront of creating and building community here in the Heights.  We are at a critical juncture in our neighborhood, with developer's chomping at the bit, new businesses starting, the Riverview Arts District finding its wings, and the convergence of old and new trying to find the way forward. The RNA Board promises to continue to play a critical leadership role as it has done for over 30 years.  Board nominations will be open on December 8th (at the Holiday Party). Nominate yourself or another worthy individual.  You can also submit nominations to us via email at riverviewneighborhood@gmail.com.

To be a board member, you must be a member in good standing, 18 years old or older, and live within the RNA boundaries.  The positions are:

President
Vice President
Secretary
Treasurer
Director-At-Large.

Have questions about what this entails?  Reach out to one of the current board members or email us. Nominations will remain open until the election is held at the January membership meeting. We are also accepting committee positions regardless of where you live in the Heights.
NJ Transit Adding Service on the 119

After over six months of work by RNA and the community with NJ Transit and the Hudson County legislators, New Jersey Transit  has improved service performance on the 119 line and has now committed to adding three PM peak bus trips starting in early January.   We are continuing work to get additional AM peak bus trips and extended late night service to the Heights.  We will post the new schedule once it's released.

RNA encourages all bus riders to report any service issues to NJ Transit (on their website or using their mobile app) and to copy RNA so we can continue to advocate on your behalf. This step of reporting all service issues is critical for these efforts to continue to improve serve on the routes serving the Heights in particular and Jersey City in general. ChicPeaJC Article features RNA Treasurer Roger Heitmann

ChicPeaJC, a Jersey City blog covering businesses and culture, featured RNA Treasurer and longtime resident Roger Heitmann in its November article about the Jersey City Heights.  If you missed it, you can read it here. (http://www.chicpeajc.com/stories/community/lets-explore-heights/)
If you haven't spoken to Roger, he is a treasure trove of knowledge about The Heights history and has a particular interest in Aaron Ogden. Strike up a conversation with him at the holiday party!
