This month's newsletter will be a bit shorter than usual due to our high level of activity - but complete updates will be made at our monthly meeting - this Tuesday, June 14th at 7:30 PM at the Harborview Health Center, 178 Ogden Avenue (at Franklin St). Our guests this month will be the new owner and architects for 520 Palisade Ave to present their new plan for the building (the old firehouse between South and Bowers), and Nick Malik, discussing the Open Tree Mapping application that is being used as part of the City of Trees tree planting initiative.  We will also provide updates on the Gazebo rebuild project, the Riverview Park renovation, as well as other activities in the neighborhood. All are encouraged and welcome to attend.
RNAs Historic Holland Street Stage a Hit at Riverview Jazzfest!

RNA Stage on Historic Holland Street. #Riverview JazzFest
RNA Stage at Riverview Jazz Festival

Part of the Art Installation By Jeankarlos Cruz

As part of Riverview Neighborhood Association's goal to partner with the City of Jersey City to restore historic Holland Street, one of four remaining cobblestone streets in Jersey City, and to further the presentation of the arts here in the Heights, RNA sponsored a second stage at this year's Riverview Jazz Festival.

The stage, located on historic Holland Street with the Ogden Avenue bridge as a backdrop, featured four bands and an art installation by Jeankarlos Cruz, created specifically for this unique space.  Featured on RNA's Holland Street Stage were the NJCU Jazz Quintet, Rebeca Vallejo, TK Blue and George Coleman & the Rivington Project.  Food trucks, beverages and RNA's volunteers rounded out the venue.

Hundreds of music lovers came out to enjoy the all day event that concluded  the week long festival.  We would like to thank organizers Margo Parks, Bryan Beninghove and all at RiverviewJazz.org for their hard work and dedication to making this year's festival a huge success.  We also want to thank the RNA Board and the countless volunteers whom devoted many hours preparing Holland St for this event.  Special thanks to Jeankarlos Cruz for his art installation that truly transformed the space, New Heights Art Supply for sponsoring said art installation (they will be opening their arts supply shop on July 2nd at 345 Central Ave 2nd Fl) and JCity Realty for consistently supporting arts in the Heights.

In addition to enjoying fabulous music and art, RNA's volunteers gathered several hundred signatures on a petition to to restore Holland Street and direct pedestrian access to it via the restoring the staircase that links Riverview Park to Holland Street at the Ogden Avenue Bridge.

New Plans for 520-525 Palisade

Ownership of the old firehouse at 520-525 Palisade Avenue has changed again, and the new owner's plan includes expanding to 88 feet high on the Ogden side of the property (Eastern side), equivalent to about 8 stories.   The owner and architect will be our guest at the monthly meeting this Tuesday, June 14th and they will present their plans to have commercial on the ground floor and apartments/condos above. Their application to the Zoning Board requests variances for height, use, density and parking.  Please attend the meeting to learn about this project, see the plans and ask questions and provide feedback on it.
