Please join us on Thursday evening, March 16th at 7:30PM for our monthly meeting at the Harborview Health Center, 178 Ogden Ave at Franklin St - 1st Floor Cafeteria.

In addition to the opportunity to hear from and bring issues to the attention of a representative from the Jersey City Police Department North District and from the Residence Response Center, this month we will call a member vote on the 520 Palisade Ave proposed project (The old firehouse) and the 620 Palisade Ave project.  We will also be giving detailed updates on the Riverview Park Renovation plans as well as the gazebo construction status.  You MUST be a paid member to vote.

All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Membership to Weigh in on Two Major Development Projects

At the March 16th monthly meeting, the RNA Executive Board is calling for a member vote on whether to support the development applications for projects located at 520 Palisade Ave and 620 Palisade Ave. In order to vote, you must be a member in good standing for 2017 (paid your membership dues and attended one meeting in the past 12 months).

You can become a member or pay your dues by visiting this link on our website; payment in cash or check can also be made at the meeting.

The projects we will be voting on are:

- 520 Palisade Ave (old firehouse)- The revised proposal has a height reduction of the rear addition to 75', added 10 parking spaces, reduction of dwelling units to 17, an increased setback along most of the rear of the building to 10' (from 5'), removal of all rear balconies, reduction of the retail space to 2000 sq ft (to accommodate parking), addition of a set back roof deck, addition of ventilation for the retail space, access to outdoor common area from the retail space, and the removal of the common room on the second floor. (the picture below DOES NOT yet show these revisions)

Rendering of 520 Palisade Ave PRIOR to community input to remove balconies, increase setback etc.
620 Palisade-
the new design is 5 story building with 22 dwelling units with 21 parking spaces (5th story setback 30 feet from Palisade). It features a new brick facade that wraps around the exposed north side of the building.

Palisade Ave to be Repaved

The Mayor's Ofice has announced that this spring/summer Palisade Ave will be repaved from Paterson Plank Rd to Reservoir St.  While this will certainly be an inconvenience, it is long overdue.  Please ask your city council representatives to enforce strict repaving rules for utilities and contractors so the repaving work does not get destroyed right after it's done.

Once we receive a schedule from the city we will post it on our website and on social media.   We are also asking the Mayor's Office, Ward D Councilman Michael Yun and Ward C Councilman Boggiano to create an overall streetscape improvement plan for Palisade Ave that would include new or improved lighting, bus stops, trees, pedestrian safety, traffic lights and traffic calming measures.

In addition to the paving, new waste and recycling receptacles will be deployed on Palisade Ave over the next couple of months as part of a citywide pilot program. The cost of the receptacles will be offset by the sale of advertising space on each receptacle.
24 Hour Heights Zone Permit Parking Enforcement Vote Forthcoming

The City Council is considering a new ordinance for the Heights, that would require 24 hour Zone Permit parking enforcement. Residents would be able to obtain a zone parking permit (16-1) which would allow parking 24 hours a day; conversely, those without permits could not park for more than 4 hours. It has been proposed and will be voted on by the city council at an upcoming city council meeting. You can review the proposed ordinance here.
Dead Trees and Branches Removed from Riverview Park

While we always hate to lose any trees from Riverview Park, there were several trees deemed extremely hazardous by the City and its new arborist and were too dangerous to remain.  Eight trees were removed and the stumps will be ground down. Each tree will be replaced with additional trees during the renovation of Riverview Park. Thank you to new Parks and Forestry director Sammy Ocasio and new JC Forester/Arborist Ryan Metz for their assistance. Tree removal riverview park
