BIG SPRING CLEAN UP Returns April 15th

After a one year absence, RNA's Big Spring Clean up returns to Riverview Park this Saturday, April 15th from 10AM to 3PM (rain or shine!).

Made possible with support from Dixon Leasing and the City of Jersey City, The Big Spring Clean Up is your opportunity to get rid of e-waste, paints/oil, tires, recycling and other household waste without having to go all the DPW or make an appointment for pickup. Dumpsters will be set up along Ogden Avenue in Riverview Park and all you have to do is bring them by.  In addition,  you can drop off your paper for secure shredding (certification provided) and GoodWill will have containers on site for donations of gently used furniture or clothing. No construction materials will be accepted.

Don't miss this opportunity to clean up your home and keep the Heights free of e-waste and other junk!  RNA will also host a park cleanup at Noon - volunteer along with other community members to give the park a good spring cleaning too!

Changes Continue in our Neighborhood

Sidewalk corners and paving work has begun on Palisade Ave from Paterson Plank Road to Reservoir Ave. Updates on this project will be posted on Facebook and as well as discussed at Tuesday's monthly meeting.

Demolition to commence at 387, 389 and 391 Palisade Ave on April 10th.  This is to make way for a previously approved mixed use building that includes residential units, a commercial space, a small gallery and 10 parking spaces.  This project was approved by the Zoning Board several years ago.

Gazebo construction completion date set back due to weather delays. Foul weather in March slowed construction of the Gazebo but work continues and completion is in sight.  The revised estimate for completion of the Gazebo project is now early June - the remaining work includes completion of the roof, installation of the railings and the majority of the landscaping and plantings.  RNA continues to work with the city to minimize any additional delays.

Construction continues at Low Fidelity and Choc O Pain at the corner of Palisade Ave and Ferry Street. Both businesses expect to open this Spring.  Low Fidelity is a bar that will replace the former Trolley Car Bar, and Choc O Pain's new location will feature its baking operations as well as a retail outlet and Cafe.
24 Hour Heights Zone Permit Parking Hearing - April 12th

The City Council is considering a new ordinance for the Heights, that would require 24 hour Zone Permit parking enforcement for the entire Heights. Residents would be able to obtain a zone parking permit (16-1) which would allow parking 24 hours a day; conversely, those without permits could not park for more than 4 hours. The City Council will hold a public hearing on this ordinance this Wednesday, April 12th.  We will review the ordinance at Tuesday's RNA meeting. You can review the proposed ordinance here.
Palisade Lumber to Close - Live at the Lumberyard will move

It is with great sadness that we report that after decades in the Heights, Palisade Lumber will close down on May 31st. Dan Goff, owner of Palisade Lumber, conveyed that they have decided to make this change because the principals are aging and are seeking to retire from the daily grind of running a retail business and that the time is right to develop the properties that they own along Palisade Ave.

Unfortunately, the closure also requires that our popular music series, Live at the Lumberyard find a new home.  The RNA Music series will kick off with a show on Historic Holland Street in June leading up to the Riverview JazzFest but the location for future "Lumberyard" shows is still being finalized.  We thank Palisade Lumber for being a positive contributor to our neighborhood for over 30 years and for the great shows we were able to produce in the Lumberyard since the debut show in 2012. Save the date - Holland Street tour

To celebrate Historic Preservation Month sponsored by the Jersey City Landmarks Conservancy, historian and preservationist John Gomez will lead a walking tour of historic Holland Street (Belgian Block street adjacent to Riverview Park). The walking tour will be held on Saturday, May 13th from 2:00-4:00PM and will also include the history of Riverview Park.  John was one of the principle people responsible for preventing this historic street from being paved over and has a deep knowledge of the area.

RNA will continue to partner with local organizations to use Holland Street for art/music events this year and to advocate for the complete historic restoration of the street.

We invite the entire Heights community to join us in celebrating and learning more about this treasure in our neighborhood.
