At this month's meeting, we will discuss and take a vote of the membership on the development project proposed for 418-434 Palisade Ave (formerly Palisade Lumber) and Ward D Councilman Michael Yun will be our guest.

All are welcome and encouraged to attend.
RNA Membership to Weigh in on Palisade Lumber Development Project

Riverview Neighborhood Association held a special meeting on October 30th dedicated to reviewing and discussing the plans for the proposed development at 418-434 Palisade Ave.

While the legal public hearing on the project takes place before the Zoning Board (date to be determined) the RNA board is seeking the input of the membership via this vote to determine the RNA's official position on the project (for or against).  As this is one of the largest proposed developments in the heights (in terms of the number of contiguous lots) and its central location within our neighborhood, th e RNA will be taking a member vote on this project at our monthly meeting on Tues 11/14 at 7:30pm (178 Ogden Ave).  You must reside within the RNA boundaries to vote, the boundaries map is here

The development is proposed to be completed in three phases, has 222' of frontage on Palisade Ave, would rise to 5 stories, contain 48 units (9 designated live/work) , include 41 parking spaces and ground floor retail.

The plans can be reviewed at the following links:

Councilman Yun this Month's Guest

Ward D Councilman Michael Yun won re-election on November 7th and he will be our guest at this month's RNA meeting on November 14th.  Councilman Michael Yun will take neighborhood issues and concerns from the community, and we will be asking him about his legislative priorities, how he will help get the Riverview Park renovation completed and how he intends to advocate for more/better public transportation for the Heights among other issues.

119 Bus Service Expanding on Nov. 18th

After persistent lobbying by RNA, and the City of Jersey City,  service on New Jersey Transit's 119 Bus to and from New York City will be increased effective November 20th.

The service change will increase the number of weekday bus trips to NYC from 43 to 48 including adding four (4) weekday trips during the AM peak from Journal Square to the Port Authority Bus Terminal and increase the number of weekday bus trips from New York City to Jersey City from 43 to 46.

The new schedule is available here  RNA will continue to work with NJT representatives and our elected officials to increase capacity, fix service and improve bus transit in the Heights.

520 Palisade Ave Variance Application Denied

Over 30 Heights residents and RNA members showed up to a Special Zoning Board hearing on October 16th to speak out against a proposed development application for 520 Palisade Ave and the Zoning Board denied the application.

Residents were unhappy with the height and increase in lot coverage at the rear of the structure (the building was only 5'-10' from the rear lot line and extended for 100')  After being denied, the current owner of the building - Pronti - has put the building back up for sale.

Ogden's End Garden Fundraiser Yields $800

RNA sponsored a fundraiser for Ogden's End Community Garden on October 28th at the Low Fidelity Bar at Palisade and Ferry St.  about 40 attendees supported the community garden and enjoyed tasting natural wines provided by Chris Leo from PS Wine Bar.  RNA also wishes to extend a big thank you to Low Fidelity bar for hosting this event and donating food and beer.  We also featured two dishes created from the final Ogden's End Garden harvest.

The funds will be put toward purchasing a new tool shed, supplies and plants for the for the 2018 season. Ogden's End Community Garden is located at the southern end of Ogden Avenue and is open to the public.  Anyone interested in volunteering should contact us at riverviewneighborhood@gmail.com.
