Annual Elections for RNA Board - Changes afoot

RNA is a 100% volunteer run organization and our annual election for the Board of Director's will be held at the monthly meeting/holiday party on Tuesday, December 11th.  Nominations for the board were opened at the November meeting and will remain open until the election is held at Tuesday's meeting.

One major change - Kern Weissman, will be stepping down as president after dedicating the past four years to volunteering in this capacity and guiding us through a time of significant change in our neighborhood. He previously served as the Vice President for 5 years.  Kern will continue to serve on the development/planning and events committees at least through 2019.   Come out to the Holiday Party to celebrate Kern's service to RNA and to welcome the 2019 board.

The nominees for the 2019 Board are:

Brian Rans - President
Open - Vice President
Roger Heitmann - Treasurer
Jocelyn Patrick - Secretary
Lauren Freestone - Director at Large

Guidelines for voting and serving on the board can be found on our website - riverviewneighborhood.org.

Riverview Park Trees and Fountain Design Proposal

You may have noticed that new trees have been planted along Riverview Park on  Palisade Ave and Ogden Avenue.  We thank RNA and Jersey City Parks Coalition Board Member Roger Heitmann for coordinating this effort.

In addition, the weed trees along the Palisade Cliffs to the east of Riverview Park are being trimmed by Hudson County with the permission of Jersey City.  This should improve the views of the New York City Skyline, Hoboken, Downtown Jersey City and the Hudson River/Harbor from the park.

We also have received, as part of the upcoming renovation of the park, a rendering of the proposed fountain design presented to us for feedback. Please submit your comments to riverviewneighborhood@gmail.com

520 Palisade Ave (old Firehouse) will be heard before the Zoning Board on 12/20

The latest plans for the old firehouse on Palisade Ave that include 20 units, a retail space and 6 stories will be heard before the Zoning Board on Thursday 12/20 at 6:30pm at City Hall.  You MUST attend in person to testify whether you support or oppose this project.

12 Unit Development at 268 New York Ave before Zoning Board on 12/20

An application for a 4-Story - 12 Unit development at 268 New York Ave will be heard by the Jersey City Board of Adjustment (zoning board) on Thursday, December 20th at 6:30PM at City Hall - 280 Grove St.  Since the owner/architect failed to present the project to the RNA membership we will be opposing the application (they did meet in January with the development committee but never responded to our requests/concerns - the primary ask was to make 20% of the rental units affordable.)

Anyone interested in this application - whether in favor or opposed - should plan on attending this meeting as it is the public hearing on the application.
